Dennis Emerson, DVM, MS
Dr. Dennis Emerson obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University where one of his jobs was as a veterinary technician at The Baton Rouge Animal Emergency Clinic. He obtained his Masters degree in nutrition from Clemson University in South Carolina, where he was a research assistant, and his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry from The University of Missouri at Columbia. There he worked as a lab assistant in the Department of Veterinary Pathology. Various academic honors acquired included phi zeta, The Honor Society of Veterinary Medicine and Gamma Sigma Delta, The Honor Society of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Emerson moved to Winston Salem in 1986 to help run the Veterinary Emergency Clinic. Prior to moving his young family here, Dr. Emerson practiced Small Animal Medicine and Surgery in both New Port News, Virginia and in Lynchburg, Virginia. He started Southside Animal Hospital as a house call practice in 1989, and opened his current facility in a renovated bank in February 1990. His wife, Pamela, is a Nurse Anesthetist and works at North Carolina Baptist Hospital. He has two children, Lauren, a nursing student at Winston Salem State Univerity and Sara, an Anesthesia Technician at The University Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Emerson's extended family include 2 dogs, 4 cats, 3 horses, 9 chickens and one guinea hen.
Professional associations include The Forsyth County Veterinary Medical Association, North Carolina State Veterinary Medical Association and The American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Emerson is a past president of both The Forsyth County Veterinary Medical Association and The North Carolina Academy of Small Animal Medicine. He currently serves on The Board of Directors of The Forsyth County Humane Society.
